The Boyk Family

I never get to do quite as many family sessions as I'd like. I'm not sure whether or not it's because weddings generally take my weekends away from potential portrait sessions, or because by the time the craziness of wedding season has died down, so has the sunny weather right along with it. But whatever the reason, I'm always so excited when I have a family session on the books. I've known the Boyk family for...a really long time. I think I first met Kayla and her family in middle school, and since then they've always been the type of people you truly enjoy running into at weddings...and random town events...and the grocery store. So when Kayla's mom, Donna, emailed to ask about a portrait session before her son, Jacob, left for the Air Force, I couldn't have been any more excited. A day at Smith Rock was just what we needed to get a few pretty pictures of this beautiful family. Oh! And Kayla and her husband, Cody, brought their dog, Petey. Instantly shooting them straight to the top of the list of families I completely adore.

Dog people are just my people. I have no control over it.

Kevin + Sandi

I called Sandi early on the morning of our session to see if she'd still like to meet for pictures. It was raining and stormy and so, so cold, and to top it all off we were both driving a few hours each way to meet at Beazell Memorial Forest outside Corvallis for the shoot. As is often the case when planning around Mother Nature, neither of us had any way of knowing if the weather would truly cooperate. But a girl after my own, determined heart, Sandi said she'd like to make their afternoon session work. I couldn't have planned the day better if I tried. We arrived at the park and it seemed as though the skies parted just for Kevin and Sandi. The evening was absolutely gorgeous and these two were stunning as they sat against the backdrop of an early 20th century wood barn. Sandi + Kevin, thank you so much for inviting me along on this amazing ride that is your wedding. I had a blast taking your pictures and cannot wait for your June wedding. Thank you for being beyond kind and giddy and so fun to work with. You make my job a breeze and I couldn't be more thankful to get to be your photographer!

Robbie + Kelly

It's always a little nerve-wracking meeting a couple for the first time. If they've already booked me for their wedding I'm even more nervous about how our first encounter might play out. What if they realize I'm actually really awkward? Or what happens when they discover I'm just a huge dork?! What if I have something on my face during the entire shoot?! But then Kelly showed up to the engagement session and told me she almost brought the same shirt I was wearing. And from that moment I knew, everything was going to be just fine. If we have the same taste in in blue button up shirts, I don't see how could anything possibly go wrong! Last month, during the very last week of gorgeous fall leaves and bright autumn colors, Robbie and Kelly met me at Smith Rock State Park for their Friday afternoon engagement session. After traipsing around the classic Central Oregon backdrop, we hopped in our cars and headed south in search of fall foliage. But not before making a pit-stop at the pumpkin patch to take pictures in a corn field!

Kelly + Robbie, you guys were even more awesome than I could have hoped. I had a blast spending the afternoon with you two and it made me all the more excited for next summer. I can't wait to document your gorgeous day at Pronghorn come July!
